About Nirwanna Bali Golf Club

Nirwanna Bali Golf Club - Nirwana Bali Golf Club at Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort has elicited so much praise and earned so many awards since its opening in 1997, it’s hard to keep track of it all. According to Asian Golf Monthly magazine, for example, there are only two courses that rank higher in all of Asia-Pacific. According to Golf Digest, the course ranks #66 among all those located outside the U.S. Forbes Travel Guide lists it among “Asia’s 10 Most Elite Golf Courses”. Laid out by the prolific and globetrotting Greg Norman, Nirwana Bali Golf Club is considered by many to be the Australian’s finest design work anywhere.

While the quality of the golf at Nirwana Bali Golf Club is widely hailed, it accounts for only a portion of the extraordinary appeal here in Tabanan, an hour northwest of Kuta, Bali’s vibrant tourist district. There are, for example, 19 Hindu temples located out and about on this diverse routing, and just off the cliff-to-cliff, 214-yard par-3 7th sits the oft-photographed island temple at Tanah Lot. It’s right there, just offshore, perched on its own island outcropping, and the devout wade out at sunset in the hundreds amid a faintly orange, billowing cloud of incense.

There are four more seaside holes nearly as compelling as the vaunted 7th, plus a dozen strong inland-jungle holes on terrain riven by rushing streams (there’s nothing quite like putting out with the sound of water rushing by) and bounded by working rice paddies, which are elegantly tiered and, in several spots, fully integrated into golf holes as hazards. Then there’s the long and superb 13th, a par-4 that plays along a plateau that takes golfers to the highest point on the property, with its long views down to the sea.

The clubhouse serving Nirwana Bali Golf Club is another gem, ranked among the top 5 in Asia Pacific by Asian Golf Monthly in 2012 (it had taken top honors the year before). Then there’s the exquisite Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort, around which the golf course is routed, with its 278 5-star rooms, suites, villas, sumptuous restaurants & bars, meeting spaces, four-tiered swimming pool, 54-meter water slide, manicured tropical gardens, rice paddies and full-service spa.

Did we mention this might be the home of Indonesia’s finest sunsets? Well, it is — which explains why the Pan Pacific is also one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in the South Pacific.

Nirwana Bali Golf Club is a must-play/must-visit for anyone who travels to the Island of the Gods, golfers and otherwise.
